Our special operations unit has been using conventional "Bunkers" since 1984 and consider them to be one of the most important tools.
We have tested the Baker Batshield® and feel that it gives us much greater speed, mobility, and more protection then our conventional Bunkers. In addition, we have greatly increased our accuracy and firepower due to the fact that the Batshield® is designed to hold the sub-gun (we carry the P90) in the center weapon mount. A pistol also fits comfortably in the standard sub-gun mount if desired.
We currently use both the compact and full size models. The weight of the full size model is only about 10 pounds. Our future plans include outfitting every team member with a Batshield®, and allowing individual team members to choose the model they prefer. If ballistic leg protection and a ballistic face shield are worn along with the Batshield®, team members nearly have 100% ballistic protection. As with a standard Bunker, it takes practice to get familiar and comfortable with hand and weapon positioning.
During slow and deliberate searches, we have found that the Batshield® is very quiet and east to maneuver when compared to the standard Bunker. The “Wings” are adjustable and have a wrap around effect that is not possible with standard Bunkers. When deploying multiple Batshield®s during Simunitions training, the Batshield® greatly increased the speed of our team. We no longer have to stack multiple operators behind a Bunker. Role players were often overwhelmed by the speed of room entry and the appearance of two members carrying Batshield®s.
In summary, the Batshield® has provided our Team with greater speed, firepower, and ballistic protection. Aggressive movement and the element of surprise has been increased. I highly recommend this product to any team.
