September 12th, 2001, Lt. Al Baker (NYPD ESU retired) searches the underground rubble of the World Trade Towers for fourteen fallen members of his Emergency Service Unit. Shortly after this fateful and life-altering event, Al personally hand fabricates the first Baker Batshield® working prototype, and meets with armor expert Rick Armellino for evaluation and input. A handshake between these two experienced professionals occurred shortly thereafter, and the Baker Batshield® company was born.
The design of the badge shaped Baker Batshield® logo is symbolic of the dedication the two founders wish to convey to the heroes who sacrifice much to preserve the American way of life. The Baker Batshield® company logo contains nine stripes, eleven stars and one ricochet. This logo serves as a constant reminder that heroes who keep our homeland safe deserve the finest protective technology available.
In September of 2003, Baker and Armellino traveled to the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) annual convention in Denver, and the first fully armored and operational version of the Baker Batshield® was shown to this gathering of the worlds most experienced tactical professionals. It quickly became apparent that this new ballistic shield concept was to soon become standard equipment for many progressive law enforcement agencies.
By mid 2004 many local, state and federal agencies had received deliveries of their new, lightweight composite shields. Headquartered in Lancaster Pennsylvania, Baker Batshield® continues to design and manufacture high-technology armor Engineered for Professionals, by professionals.
